The cradle of salmon farming

“Once upon a time there were two brothers who had a great idea. As the first in the world, they started farming of Atlantic salmon, just off the coast of Hitra. In 1971, the brothers, Ove and Sivert Grøntvedt, put 20 000 salmon smolt into what is considered to be the first salmon farm in the world. 46 years later, Hitra and Frøya have become one of the world’s biggest salmon farming locations, with a production of about 260 000 tonnes per year.”

Suitable for groups of 10-12 people. Free capacity Tuesday and Thursday after 13.00 if you want to include visit to the salmon farming facility. Free capacity every day all week for sea food adventure and overnight stay.

Express boat timetable:

The express boat or the bus arrives at Sandstad, and the visit starts with a guided tour in the coastal museum’s aquaculture exhibition in the terminal building and then by rib boat to one of Lerøy’s salmon farming facilities close by. The duration of this activity is 1.5 hours in total. (NB! This trip can only be arranged in daylight, that means that the last possible express boat from the city will be the 12.15 Monday-Friday. Last possible start by bus will be 13.00.)

We then continue by the rib boat or by bus / taxi from Sandstad to Ansnes Brygger (10 minutes by rib, 20 minutes by bus / taxi).

At Ansnes Brygger we will first be presented to their home brewed beers and then to the best we have to offer when it comes to seafood. This just cannot be done better. Ola Skjåk Bræk and his seafood chefs are at your service!

You can choose between a fantastic “Seafood box” or if you really want the best of the best – “The evening of Ægir!. After dinner you can be driven back to Trondheim by bus or you can stay at Ansnes Brygger, Hjorten Hotell Hitra or Dolmsundet Hotell Hitra overnight and take the boat back to the city at 09.50 in the morning.

We customize a package for each request, so we can give prices only when we know in detail what the group wants. Nevertheless, we promise that you want to have a first-class aquaculture and seafood experience with us at the salmon island of Hitra!
